CASE STUDIES

Everyone has a story to tell, and every roofing story is a bit different. We don't take lightly how large of an expense this is for homeowners. And since you don't have to replace your roof very often you might like to draw from other's experiences. We hope these case studies help you in knowing what to expect.

Roof Replacement - Louisville 2024

Avoiding a "Door Knocker"

A "door knocker" is what we call a guy in a truck who knocks on your door claiming to be a roofer. "I am just passing through and looks like your roof has been damaged. Mind if I get up there and take a look?"

Now maybe the guy really is roofer. But this homeowner in Louisville felt uncomfortable. He did not like this approach. He did not know this person. He had no way of knowing if this guy would be right or wrong. He ultimately did not trust this guy.

So he called someone he does trust... his Insurance Agent. The Insurance Agent explained how this happens all the time. There may be damage and maybe not. If there is damage from a recent storm then certainly his insurance policy would cover it. The Insurance Agent advised his customer to call a roofing company they do trust, someone who understands the type of damage that would warrant an insurance claim. The Insurance Agent advised calling Reliant Roofing & Restoration.

One of our Roofing Guides scheduled a visit for the homeowners earliest convenience. We affirmed his suspicions of the "door knocker" because we have seen many homeowners get caught up in scams, or untrustworthy roofers attempting tactics to scam the insurance agencies... which many times leads to a roof that is worse off and an insurance claim that gets denied. Because he called his Insurance Agent first, this homeowner avoided that happening to him.

Our assessment did in fact find enough damage due to high winds that would constitute a total roof replacement. Because of that a neighbor requested that we inspect his roof also, but interestingly our assessment did not find enough damage to constitute a roof replacement. Our Roofing Guide did not think a Claims Adjuster would approve. In fact, this roof should have another 5-10 years of life. Now, how many "door knockers" do you think would turn down a willing customer?

With our assessment, the homeowner called back his Insurance Agent who filed a claim. A Claims Adjuster would soon arrive. Prior to that our Roofing Guide explained the "4 Questions to Ask the Insurance Adjuster" so that the homeowner would be prepared for that conversation. See below if you'd like to download too.

The Claims Adjuster agreed there was enough damage. He approved the claim. He provided all the information to the homeowner. At that point our Roofing Guide at Reliant Roofing got started. We provided all the options for the homeowner to choose the roofing material that would match the look he wanted to achieve. In this case the homeowner selected a high-end slate material. Our Roofing Guide provided the quote for the entire job which was more than what the claim's money would provide. The homeowner knew upfront that he would have to pay a portion out of his own pocket. For the slate roof, and for the upscale team of installers it was worth it. So our Roofing Guide ordered the materials, and scheduled our installation team.

This was a roofing job that not every "door knocking" roofing company can complete. First, the high-end slate material requires a unique installation technique. Second, the pitch of this roof is very steep. Some roofing companies will not attempt this pitch because of the danger. At Reliant Roofing & Restoration we use professional safety techniques like harnessing in order to safely and confidently complete high pitch roofs.

Our installation team did encounter some problems during installation. For one, it ended up raining. But we were prepared with tarps to ensure we protect the roof throughout. Also our installation team caused some damage to some gutters. And, all the heavy materials plus our people walking around in the wet grass caused damage to his turf. We did a walk through with the homeowner, pointed out all the damage, took notes, and we repaired or replaced everything at no additional cost to the homeowner. Reliant Roofing & Restoration always leaves a property in better condition than we found it. In every way.

In the end, the homeowner said he was happiest with three main things.

- Our professionalism and communication

- Our service and righting our wrongs

- The final product

And because of the positive experience... we know the neighbor looks forward to our help too.
